Argolida

Argolida is the smallest province in the Peloponnese, containing the world’s most famous ancient archaeological sites. It is an attractive holiday destination in Greece because of its large variety of Greek culture and nature, ranging from a holiday of lazing on the beaches to making mythological round trips.

Some famous sites that are well worth visiting are:
• The archaeological sites of Argos, Mycene, Tiryns, Epidavros, Asklepios, Lerna, Troizin, Asini, Midia, Hera’s Sanctuary, Dendra
• Byzantine Art in the numerous monasteries and churches
• Venetian and Frankish castles
• A boat trip to the islands of Spetses, Hydra and Poros
• Picturesque towns and villages like Nafplion and Archaia Epidavros
• Museums of Archaeological finds, stage costumes, and Komboloi
• Performances of Drama and Concerts in the ancient theatres
• Lovely beaches, small bays and clear sea water
• Green mountains, vast olive and orange orchards
• The quiet, hospitable, life-loving Greek way of living
• Delicious Greek cuisine
• A good road network and many fishing ports
• Exhilarating nights out
• Outings to nearby Korinth and Nemea

There is no mass tourism in Argolida. All accommodation is small-scale and run by families.
Most Greeks speak English; some speak German as well.

The mythological background of the area permeates the air: it is observed and felt all the time. While enjoying your lunch at the beach of Mili, it is easy to imagine how Hercules strangled the water snake at Hydra.
